About Rev. Monica

I became interested in officiating weddings after my own wedding in April of 2008. I especially enjoy performing small, intimate ceremonies at the many beautiful outdoor venues available here in northern California. As I am originally from Michigan, perfect weather is not something I take for granted!

My background is quite diverse, including work as a massage therapist, writer, and teacher. I recently opened a part time massage therapy practice in Santa Clara and founded the Touch Initiative. I earned a BA in English from UCLA and later returned to Eastern Michigan University for a master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Teaching English has been a way to indulge my love of language, travel and people of diverse cultural and language backgrounds. I taught ESL in middle and high schools in North Carolina and later at Foothill College and San Jose City College.

I have published a book for children and am working on others, taking an occasional break from my own work to take voice classes in San Francisco and record audio books for the nonprofit organization Books Aloud. I enjoy the language and ritual of weddings and the magic that results when two individuals come together to declare their love for each other. I consider it an honor to play a role in these joyful celebrations.

In addition to my work as an officiant, I work with seniors and their families to help them find the resources they need for the best possible quality of life. It is my sincere desire to contribute to the peace and happiness of every individual that I have the privilege to serve.

My husband Michael and I live in the Rose Garden area of San Jose with our dog Zola, an English Setter/Husky mix adopted from a Michigan animal control shelter. We have also adopted San Jose as our home, and enjoy the history, architecture, and friendly neighbors we have been fortunate to find here.
